SCHUCO Mini Tricky Yes/No Golden Mohair Teddy Bear c1950s 5 in. This adorable 5-inch Miniature SCHUCO Teddy Bear has rich golden mohair and black and amber colored glass eyes, a pronounced muzzle and a black stitched nose and mouth. He is fully jointed with a tail operated head mechanism.
When his tail is moved from side to side he shakes his head and when it is moved up and down he nods. This works best for moving his head back and forth - it's a little trickier to get his head to move up and down, though this part does work. His arms are distinctive as they have downturned paws and he seems to be begging. After WWII, about 1950, the "Yes/No" Bear was reintroduced as the "Tricky Yes/No Bear, ".
Schuco was known for the quality of their workmanship and ingenious designs. This adorable Schuco bear comes from a German woman collector friend who bought all of her bears in Germany and has decided it's time her bears get a new home.

NOTES: T he famous toy company Schuco patented their "Yes/No Bear" after its first appearance at a toy fair in Leipzig in 1921.The bear's head could be moved from left to right and up and down. This could be done by moving a small lever in the tail. Six sizes were produced, ranging from 25 to 60 cos and in different mohair fabric types. The four smaller sizes contained squeakers, the two larger contained growlers.
These bears are sometimes referred to as Patented Yes/No Bear. After WWII, about 1950, the yes/no bear was reintroduced as the Tricky Yes/No Bear. Made in seven sizes, of various mohair colors (blond, gold, red-brown) it contained a growler and some contained Swiss musical mechanisms.
Their arns are distinctive as they have downturned paws and seem to be begging. These Tricky Yes/No Bears, introduced in the 1950's, had downturned paws, broad flat feet and their muzzles often shaved. They wore a red bow and plastic medallion on their chest saying "Schuco TRICKY patent" on one side and "Made in the US zone of Germany" indicating it was manufactured before 1953.
Was established in the US with import rights to all Schuco products for US & Canada markets in 1947. Tail to turn or nod their heads. Miniature Schuco bears were manufactured by the German company Schreyer & Company. This unique range of little bears with an internal frame made up of metal plates, was first introduced in 1924 and continued to be made right through.The firm's demise in the late 1970's.
