Chad Valley UK Teddy Bear 1950s Golden Mohair Plush 17in Label Jointed Sqeaker

Beautiful Vintage Golden Mohair Plush Teddy Bear. By The Chad Valley Co Ltd, England. 17 inches tall (46 cm), 14 inches sitting (36 cm). Bear weighs just over 1 3/4 lbs.

Made from Golden Mohair Plush fur, a little faded to pale blonde in spots, worn around his tummy where his squeaker box is (squeaker works sometimes). Some mohair wear to toes, about 85% to 90% total mohair coverage. Brown plastic eyes, a black vertical stitched nose & claws. His cinnamon/russet paw pads may be more recent replacements although there doesn't seem to be any difference in the exact tiny stitches so they were well done if they were replaced.

One ear end has come out of head seam & needs some stitches to tack back in place (see last photo). His limbs are jointed but his head joint must have become loose because his head is now stitched in place and does not swivel. Chad Valley (England) produced its first teddy bear in England in 1915. In 1931 they were granted The Royal Warrant of Appointment as Toymaker's to the Queen.
